CFA Institute is world-renowned as the administrator of the CFA Programme. It has over 130 member societies worldwide and HKSFA is one of them located in Hong Kong.

To update your personal particulars with CFA Institute, please send them an email at info@cfainstitute.org or cmservices@cfainstitute.org, or do it through their website at http://www.cfainstitute.org/memresources/members/index.html.

To update HKSFA's record, please send us an email at info@hksfa.org or do it through our website at http://www.hksfa.org/Membership/updateprofile.asp.

  1. How can I get access to the "Members Only" area of the HKSFA website?

You should be given the set of access codes when you become a new member.  If you do not get it, please send your enquiry to us at info@hksfa.org.  Kindly quote your membership number in all correspondences.


  1. How much do I have to pay for the Annual Dues of HKSFA?

The Annual Dues of HKSFA is US$80 per year.  Our fiscal year runs from 1 July to 30 June.  CFA Institute collects the Annual Dues on our behalf.  You may settle it online via CFA Institute's website at http://www.cfainstitute.org/memresources/members/dues.html.  You also have to pay a Joining Fee (HK$500) for the first year you join HKSFA.  Please refer to the details listed in Question 7.

  1. Do I have to pay a Joining Fee  when I apply for the membership of HKSFA?

There is a one-time Joining Fee of HK$500.  It will be billed by HKSFA.  You should receive a payment link when HKSFA approves your membership application.  You may also choose to pay by cheque or in cash.

  1. How long does it take to process my membership application?

The membership application process will normally take 10-12 weeks.

  1. If I am neither a member of CFA Institute nor a member of HKSFA, how can I apply for both membership?

If you would like to apply for both the membership of CFA Institute and HKSFA, please submit your application via CFA Institute's website at http://www.cfainstitute.org/cfaprog/charterholder/membership/index.html.  Please make sure you have indicated that you would like to add the Hong Kong Society membership.  You are also required to submit two sponsor forms.  One sponsor has to be your supervisor and the other sponsor has to be a CFA Institute Regular Member.  One of them must be a member of HKSFA.  Once you have submitted your membership application, you should be able to get a sponsor link and pass it to your sponsors for their submission.  At the same time, please submit a "Personal Particulars of Member" form to HKSFA at info@hksfa.org

  1. If I am a member of CFA Institute, am I automatically be a member of HKSFA? If not, how can I apply for the membership of HKSFA?

No, unless you apply for both membership when you first submit your Membership Application and Sponsor Forms. If you are a member of CFA Institute and would like to apply for the membership of HKSFA, please submit your request via CFA Institute's website at http://www.cfainstitute.org/cfaprog/charterholder/membership/index.html  indicating that you would like to add membership to the Hong Kong Society.  At the same time, please submit a completed ¡§Personal Particulars of Member¡¨ form and return it to us by email at info@hksfa.org or by post at Suite 1604, 16/F, The Hong Kong Club Building, 3A Chater Road, Central, Hong Kong.  

  1. What is the process of transferring my membership from another CFA Institute member society to the Hong Kong Society?

Please submit your request via CFA Institute's website at http://www.cfainstitute.org/cfaprog/charterholder/membership/index.html.  At the same time, please complete a ¡§Personal Particulars of Member¡¨ form  and return it to us by email at info@hksfa.org or by post at Suite 1604, 16/F, The Hong Kong Club Building, 3A Chater Road, Central, Hong Kong.

If you would like to cancel your current membership with other CFA Institute member society, please send an email to CFA Institute at cmservices@cfainstitue.org or you may also do it via the above link under the "Service Request" item.

  1. If I am a member of a CFA Institute member society, can I also join the HKSFA membership?
    If yes, what are the application procedures?

Yes. You may apply for membership of more than one CFA Institute member societies. Please submit your request via CFA Institute's website at http://www.cfainstitute.org/cfaprog/charterholder/membership/index.html.  At the same time, please complete a "Personal Particulars of Member"  Form and return it to us by email at info@hksfa.org or by post at Suite 1604, 16/F, The Hong Kong Club Building, 3A Chater Road, Central, Hong Kong.

  1. If I have withdrawn my membership with HKSFA in the past two years, how can I reinstate my membership?

If you have only withdrawn the membership of HKSFA but you are still a member of CFA Institute, you can reinstate/re-activate your HKSFA membership via CFA Institute's website at http://www.cfainstitute.org/cfaprog/charterholder/membership/index.html.  CFA Institute will collect the Annual Dues on our behalf and you will be required to pay for the full year Annual Dues (US$80) of HKSFA.  At the same time, please complete and return a "Member Contact Details" Form so that we can update your contact details accordingly.

  1. If I have withdrawn my membership with both CFA Institute and HKSFA in the past, how can I reinstate my membership?

You may contact our Membership Chair or any member of the Membership Committee for assistance. A list of HKSFA's Membership Committee members can be found at http://www.hksfa.org/about_HKSFA/board.asp.  Please send your request together with your resume (including details of job duties), reference letters on work experience and contact information of your referees.  HKSFA would verify your work experience and may contact your referees before our directors determine whether it is appropriate for them to be your sponsor.

  1. If I am a member of both CFA Institute and HKSFA, how should I update my personal details such as address changes and working experience?

You are also welcome to meet some of the board members at our Monthly Happy Hour Gathering to learn more about the Society's volunteer work.  Our Monthly Happy Hour Gathering is held at the second Thursday of each month.  Information of the venue is posted on our website at http://www.hksfa.org/events/monthlyhappyhour.asp


  1. Does HKSFA provide continuing education activities qualifying for CPT hours recognized by SFC?

Yes. HKSFA is recognised by The Securities and Futures Commission as an institution for providing Continuous Professional Training. We provide Continuing Education programmes and seminars qualifying for CPT hours. HKSFA will indicate the qualified number of CPT hours in the flyer of the events.
